About

Creative Skills Week 2024 gathers third-level educators, university leaders, vocational education and training (VET) providers, industry partners, SME’s and policymakers dedicated to the future of the Cultural and Creative Sector Industries (CCSI).

Working in the cultural and creative ecosystem, we often lack the time to come together and think about the future of our sector, particularly how we can strengthen the organisations and businesses within it.

Join us for Creative Skills Week 2024, a unique opportunity to shape and steer the discussion around skills for our somewhat fragmented sector. To achieve this, we need all stakeholders to be involved and help us address skills gaps, identify opportunities for upskilling, and start shaping strategic skills for future creatives.

Explore common ground for the cultural and creative ecosystem throughout Europe. Develop local and European solutions which address urgent challenges within the CCSI. Together, let’s learn from each other how local communities can strengthen their work and enhance collaboration within their local ecosystems. Contribute to expanding creative skills training beyond systems and sectors to secure sustainable futures in the CCSI!

Powered by SACCORD, in association with CYANOTYPES, and hosted by Conservatorium of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK). With the support of the City of Amsterdam and EIT Culture & Creativity. On behalf of SACCORD and CYANOTYPES, ELIA is the main organiser of Creative Skills Week.

Powered by

SACCORD

The SACCORD combines SKILLS and ACCORDANCE by collecting skills intelligence and data to support the European Skills Agenda and facilitates collaboration and joining up of partners at European and regional level who have not previously worked together in supporting the Large-Scale Skills Partnership (LSP) on Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). The SACCORD consortium aims to support, transfer and foster innovation and localisation of the Skills Partnership.

SACCORD (p.n. 101132841) is co-funded by Erasmus + Forward-Looking Project Scheme.

CYANOTYPES

CYANOTYPES is a pan-European project bringing together a wide variety of organisations, stakeholders, and European networks to address the needs and skills gaps in the Cultural & Creative Industries. Based on innovative multidisciplinary approaches, CYANOTYPES tackles the sector’s potential for innovation and competitiveness, which deals as well with challenges presented by the triple transition (social, digital and green).

CYANOTYPES (p.n. 101056314) is part of Alliances for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills, co-funded by the European Commission Erasmus+ Programme.

Travel to Amsterdam

Amsterdam is very easy to reach by plane, train, bus, car or even boat. We encourage everyone to use the rail if possible, so we can keep our carbon footprint to a minimum.

Amsterdam is easily and directly accessible by train from all over Europe. Eurostar (formerly Thalys), ICE International and European Sleeper trains run directly to the heart of the city from London, Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Antwerp, Prague and Dresden.

You will likely terminate at Amsterdam’s main station: Amsterdam Centraal Station. From there, it is simple to complete your journey by public transport.

If you are travelling from another station in the Netherlands (for example Utrecht or Rotterdam), it is possible that you choose another train station in Amsterdam closer to your destination.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the primary international airport in the Netherlands, is located about 20 kilometres from Amsterdam. You can reach Amsterdam from Schiphol by train, taxi or hotel shuttle in just half an hour.

Getting from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol into Amsterdam:

By rail
The train station in Schiphol is located directly underneath the airport. Schiphol Airport Station is located directly beneath the airport. In the arrival hall, you can buy a ticket at the yellow and blue ticket machines.

You then follow the ‘Trains’ signs to Schiphol Plaza and then take the stairs, moving walkway or lift down to the platforms. Always check in and out by swiping your card on the yellow card readers. These are located at the top of the escalators and lifts in Schiphol Plaza.

From Schiphol, InterCitys and slower trains from the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways – NS) can take you to Amsterdam Central Station (city centre), Amsterdam Zuid (World Trade Center) and Amsterdam RAI (conference centre).

Amsterdam is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. The fastest and easiest way to get around in the city is by cycling.

Bicycles can be rented in all parts of the city. Especially around Central Station and Leidseplein you may find rental companies. Some hotels provide rental bikes as well. Bike rental is often possible from 3 hours per day, the average daily rental price is €10.For more information on bicycle parking and tips, please check this website: https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/travel-stay/getting-around/cycling-in-amsterdam

Public transport in Amsterdam is easy to use and very well connected. The extensive network is operated by GVB and connects the city’s neighbourhoods and the greater Amsterdam Area by tram, metro, bus and ferry. Ferries are free to use in Amsterdam. When downloading the GVB travel app, you can easily buy tickets within the app. Paper chip cards are available in many places (debit or credit card, PIN/contactless):

  • GVB Service & Tickets counters in the city
  • Many vending machines at bus and tram stops and all metro stations
  • From the conductor on the tram (only hour and day tickets)

Make sure you always check in and out with your card. More information on traveling with public transport with the GVB you can find here.

To use the train in Amsterdam you need to use the network of Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways – NS). You can buy tickets for the train at the train stations, at the yellow and blue NS ticket machines. Make sure you also check-in and out with your ticket.

It is quite convenient to walk around the city, the distances are quite close. It is safe to walk around Amsterdam, make sure you pay attention to cyclists around.

EDI statement

The CSW Organisers with the host institutions are dedicated to hosting events that prioritise equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. We have worked together to make this event a safer and more accessible space for all.

Should you have any specific accessibility needs (such as transportation assistance, support from a staff member, or a large-print programme), or if you need help registering for the event and/or registering an assistant to accompany you, please contact the ELIA Team (CSW Organisers) so we can ensure this event is inclusive and accessible to you.

All our events have a support system in place. If you witness any harassment or discriminatory behaviour during the event, please contact a member of the team or call or send a message: {+31 650401938}. This phone line will be monitored for the duration of the event

If you prefer to make an anonymous report, please use the online form that will be made available shortly before the event.

We value any feedback you may have on how inclusive and accessible you find this event. You can submit your feedback in the event evaluation report that will be disseminated after the event. Your honesty is appreciated and will help us to understand how to improve the inclusivity and accessibility of our future events. All feedback will be collected anonymously.

Environmental sustainability

The CSW Organisers are aware that large international conferences can have a negative effect on the environment due to the number of participants, who will be travelling and the footprint of hosting the event itself (for instance, through consumption and waste). To reduce the environmental impact of Creative Skills Week 2024, the organising team, will make greener choices in the organisation of the conference and invite participants to join us in this effort!

Several steps are being taken by CSW organisers, to lower the event’s impact on the environment and climate:

  • ACCOMMODATION: All recommended hotels are easily accessible from the conference venue, either on foot or by a short ride with public transportation. The recommended hotels are taking ecological steps to improve their offer and make it more environmentally friendly.

  • TRAVEL: Participants are encouraged to travel by train to Amsterdam, if possible, or make other sustainable travel arrangements. If you must fly, consider a direct connection (if available), which has a lower carbon emission than a flight with a transfer. Walking, cycling, or public transportation should be used for travel within Amsterdam.
  • FOOD & DRINKS: Catering at the event has been selected following sustainability criteria and will feature local, seasonal, and/or vegetarian options. Participants are encouraged to bring their own re- usable water bottle.

  • MATERIALS: Printed materials and giveaways will be kept to a minimum. Please let us know in the registration process whether you need a printed programme (large print is available). Participants are encouraged to bring their own (tote) bag in which they can keep conference materials. Tote bags will not be handed out at the venue.

  • AWARENESS: To increase awareness about environmental sustainability, our sustainable actions will be communicated to our suppliers and partners. Before, during, and after the conference we will communicate and create dialogue with participants to help us co-create a more sustainable event.

We are aligning the CSW’s sustainability efforts to the SHIFT Eco-Guidelines for Networks.
